Competition

At the yearly IEEE SoutheastCon Convention, there are many student competitions available to participate in. VT CRO specifically attends the Hardware Competition, which is the competition that the organization was born from. In this competition, the players are challenged to design a completely autonomous robot that is 1 foot x 1 foot x 1 foot in size, with the goal to complete tasks around a small map that is provided by the competition. Each year, the tasks and challenges change, and the location of the competition varies according to where the next SoutheastCon convention takes place.

Within the Hardware Competition, there are two separate tournaments that take place: University and Open. Per competition regulations, each university can only have one team that represents the entire school, and any other teams must go into the open bracket along with teams that do not identify with universities.

Virginia Tech is also known to compete in some of the smaller competitions, such as the circuit design competition, the networking competition, as well as the promotional design competition.
