Once again, it's up to you to decide where to divide the difference, but if you're planning on logging some significant freeway miles on your dual sporting activity, it's commonly rewarding to give up some off-road efficiency for creature conveniences.

DOT ratings are the bare minimum need in the states, but DOT safety testing isn't especially extensive, so we like helmets with either Snell ratings, ECE certification, or some mix of the three. For you hardcore off-roaders, a dirt-specific cover (motocross-style, no visor, open ventilation, etc) is perfectly fine.

While twin sport bikes are, by nature, commonly much more dirt-biased than their ADV cousins, both self-controls generally draw from the exact same swimming pool of helmet choices. Not all dual-sport motorcyclists are as curious about obtaining as filthy as others though, so here's our universal guidance when selecting the best dual-sport helmet for your riding style.

With that being said, bear in mind that while a lot of credible safety helmets include an ECE accreditation nowadays, you shouldn't overlook a helmet just because it does not have one. Because of this, a lot of double sporting activity riders have special requirements when it comes to motorcycle helmets equipment, especially when it involves safety helmets.
